Purpose & Scientific Principle
The exhibition item is a real experimental device, namely the Welsh Cloud Chamber, which allows the audience to observe the trajectory of charged particles and learn about antimatter including positrons.
How to Operate
This device consists of a real Welsh cloud chamber device, multimedia display, refrigerator, etc. Viewers can take a close look at the charged particles produced by the Welsh Cloud Chamber and their movements directly or by clicking on the screen. View the Welsh Cloud Chamber and learn about the trajectories of positrons. This exhibition requires a very dark environment. Through the Welsh Cloud Chamber device, viewers can get close to the window and observe the trajectories of internal particles. By analyzing the trajectories, positive and negative matter can be determined. At the same time, the exhibition items require extremely low temperatures, and compressor and semiconductor refrigeration methods will be considered. The top-mounted glass cover allows easy cleaning of the interior.
When every substance is in the gaseous state, if the pressure is greater than a certain value (saturated vapor pressure), the gaseous substance will condense into liquid droplets. But if the steam is very pure, even if the external pressure exceeds its saturated vapor pressure, the steam will not automatically condense, which is called a supersaturated gas. If a small disturbance is added to the supersaturated gas at this time, such as charged particles or other impurities flying by, the gas will quickly condense into small droplets with this impurity as the core and condense along the flight path of the particles. This is a cloud chamber used to detect the trajectory of charged particles. It was invented by the famous physicist Wilson, so it is also called the Wilson Cloud Chamber.
