Purpose & Scientific Principle
The exhibits show the operating principle of the water clock in a transparent and intuitive way, allowing the audience to understand the knowledge about dripping and siphoning.
How to Operate
The water clock is a water-powered timing device, consisting of a pressure well water supply device, an automatic water supply device, a display stand, a water holding mechanism, a siphon mechanism, an impeller mechanism, a water clock mechanism, pipes and 50 liters of colored water mixed with methanol.
The right part of the exhibit is connected to the pressure well water supply device. When the audience participates, they can press the pressure well handle and watch the water flow into the top water holding mechanism. A water clock mechanism is provided on the left side of the water holding mechanism, and a dripping funnel is provided at the lower part. When the regular water droplets impact the pendulum of the water clock mechanism, the minute hand of the water clock mechanism is driven to rotate. When the flying needle rotates once, it counts as one hour. Water droplets impact the pendulum of the water clock mechanism and drip into the siphon mechanism below. When the water level reaches a certain height, the siphon pipe drains water to the impeller mechanism, impacts the impeller, and drives the spiral shape to rotate.
When no spectators participate, the automatic water supply system starts and pumps water to the water holding mechanism to ensure accurate timing when no spectators participate. The water holding mechanism is equipped with an overflow port and a water level gauge to ensure the water level.
