Purpose & Scientific Principle
Through the immersive interactive experience of the exhibits, you can experience the magic of optical illusions and understand that optical illusions are when people observe objects. Due to the interference of shape, light and color of objects, coupled with people's physiological and psychological reasons, they misrecognize objects, which will produce judgmental visual errors that are inconsistent with reality. At the same time stimulate their curiosity and spirit of exploration.
How to Operate
The Ames Room is an application of the "constant size illusion". In this room, if two people of exactly the same height stand on the left and right sides of the room, there will be an illusion of a significant height difference. The exhibit is set up as an Ames Giant House. The children cooperated with each other. Several children stood in different places in the room and observed the children in the house from specific windows. Observe the changes in height and shape of your friends indoors and outdoors, and think about the principles.
The Ames Room creates a constant illusion of size, with the pictorial background providing scale of depth. If you remove the background, the image will lose its three-dimensionality and there will be no illusion, or if there is, it will be very weak.
The wrong background will provide the wrong scale and lead to misunderstandings.
The Ames Room provides a false backdrop. In fact, the wall behind is not parallel to the observer, but slanted. The floor conceals this inclination. The people are not one big and one small, but one far away and one close.
