Purpose & Scientific Principle
The distance from a moving point on the plane to a fixed point (focus) is equal to the distance to a fixed straight line (directrix). A parabola is the set of all moving points that meet these conditions. The surface obtained by rotating a parabola around its axis is a parabola. The display is based on the optical focusing principle of a parabola: the light emitted from the focus is parallel to the main axis after being reflected by the parabola. After the ball is released from a high place, it will hit the parabola in free fall and bounce back to the focus of the parabola, ringing the bell at the focus.
How to Operate
The exhibits consist of acrylic boxes, ball covers, bells, balls, buttons, etc. The bottom of the acrylic box is a paraboloid. Press the "start" button on the table, and the small ball at the bottom is transported from the bottom to the top through the lifting device on the side, and then rolls irregularly to a small hole on the transparent top and falls into the box. After hitting the paraboloid at the bottom, it bounces into the ball cover and rings the bell (the focus of the paraboloid), and finally rolls back to the ball outlet from the center hole of the paraboloid. After many operations, you will find that the ball will bounce into the ball cover and ring the bell every time, demonstrating the principle of parabolic focusing. The exhibition item is equipped with a hidden reset mechanism that can reset the ball to the top for next time participation.
