Purpose & Scientific Principle

The exhibition uses an interactive experience to allow participants to see the waveform when the sound frequency changes and understand the principle of standing acoustic wave.

How to Operate

The exhibition is equipped with two sets of transparent circular tubes filled with foam particles. The sound waves emitted by the sound source at one end are propagated in the tubes to generate reflected waves, causing the foam particles to vibrate for display.

The audience presses the start button, and the speaker at one end of the transparent circular tube emits sound. The incident sound wave propagates from one end of the transparent tube to the other end to form a reflected wave. Turn the knob to adjust the frequency of the sound. When the amplitude, frequency, and vibration direction of the reflected sound wave in the opposite direction of propagation and the incident sound wave are the same and superimpose on each other to form a standing wave, you will see that the particles in the tube will beat violently. The audience can also press the "Demo Song" button to observe the fluctuation of particles under different song frequencies.

The lengths of the two sets of transparent circular tubes are different. The audience can compare and observe the differences in the node and antinode positions of the standing waves generated by the same sound source in the two sets of devices.

The speaker generates sound waves with continuously adjustable frequency, so that the emitted wave and the reflected wave in the transparent tube have the opportunity to form the same frequency and phase, so that the standing wave generated is stable and has the largest amplitude. The lightweight foamed PVC particles inside the tube will form a pattern similar to the waveform due to the vibration of the air inside, thereby demonstrating a standing wave and forming a visual sound waveform.
