Standing Acoustic Wave

Purpose & Scientific Principle

Sound wave is a longitudinal wave, which is a pressure vibration propagating in elastic media. Display sound waves as patterns. What this device shows is the phenomenon of standing acoustic waves. Standing waves are formed by the superposition of two waves with the same amplitude, frequency, and vibration direction but opposite propagation directions.

How to Operate

The organic glass tube in the exhibition item is filled with solid particles. One end of the organic glass tube is connected to the speaker to form a sealed space that displays the standing acoustic wave. Participants operate the knob to start the speaker to emit sound, adjust the frequency of the sound, observe the vibration of the particles in the organic glass tube with the standing wave, and explore the characteristics of the standing wave and the conditions for its generation.

Press the button to adjust the frequency, the speaker emits sound, and observe the particles in the plexiglass tube vibrating with the standing wave.
