Purpose & Scientific Principle

Agricultural civilization is the first form of human civilization, and the Sumerian civilization in Mesopotamia is the first human civilization. The exhibits aim to show the comparison between the use of machinery and human power through interactive experience, allowing the audience to understand the mechanical principles of the tangerine, plow, and four-wheeled vehicle first invented by Sumer, and to understand the importance of agriculture to the development of human history.

How to Operate

In 4000 BC, the Sumerians settled in the Mesopotamia basin, dug ditches, built complex irrigation networks, invented the plow, and made wheels pulled by animals, and successfully used the rapid water of the two rivers to develop agricultural production.

The earliest plow

Around 3000 BC, the Mesopotamians first harnessed oxen and developed the first plow - a simple scraper plow, called ARD. It consisted of a frame with vertical wooden sticks that were dragged through the dirt to excavate a patch of land immediately adjacent to a plowed road for planting. The Sumerians even produced a manual that gave farmers detailed instructions on how to use various types of plows.

The earliest orange

Around 5000 BC, people began to dig ditches to divert water to irrigate crops. The earliest human irrigation ditches appeared in some plain areas of the Mesopotamia and Nile River basins. The tangerine was the first device used to lift water in several ancient civilizations.

Oranges were invented in the Mesopotamian plains in prehistoric times, possibly as early as the time of Sargon of the Akkadian Kingdom (the emperor of the Sumerian city-states in the 23rd and 22nd centuries BC). It is also used in Egypt and other countries.

first wheeled vehicle

Around 3300 BC, the Sumerians made the world's first four-wheeled vehicle, which was pulled by four donkeys, but the wheels at this time were made of two semicircular pieces of wood.

The wheel is one of the most important inventions in history and has had an extremely important impact on trade, agriculture, and urban construction. Its emergence changed the early methods of warfare, making long-distance heavy transport and early mechanized production possible. It opens the door for human exploration and industrial innovation.

The invention of the plow replaced human muscles with animal power, revolutionized agriculture and greatly increased productivity. It is considered one of the most important inventions in social progress.
