Purpose & Scientific Principle

The exhibits display the large-scale structure of the universe through 6 sets of pictures of different scales of the universe, allowing the audience to understand the scale position of the earth at the cosmic level and feel the vast beauty of the universe.

How to Operate

According to the large-scale structure of the universe, it can be arranged from small to large as:

(1) The third ring of the solar system: The earth is located in the solar system and is the third ring of the solar system. The first and second rings are Mercury and Venus respectively. The fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth rings are Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune respectively.

(2) Orion’s Left Arm: The solar system is located within the Milky Way, on the edge of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way.

(3) Milky Way: The Milky Way as a whole is like a whirlpool. At present, humans have relatively clearly understood that the Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy with four spiral arms. The solar system is located on one of the Orion spiral arms, and it is very peripheral.

(4) Virgo Supercluster: The Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy as the main body, and about 50 other smaller galaxies form the local galaxy group, called the Virgo Supercluster.

(5) Laniakea Supercluster: The Virgo Supercluster, Peacock-Indian Supercluster, and Hydra-Centaurus Supercluster form the larger Laniakea Supercluster. This Laniakea Supercluster contains at least 100,000 galaxies the size of the Milky Way.

(6) This universe: On a larger scale, people have discovered more spectacular and vast structures such as the Sloan Wall and the Great Wall of Hercules-Colora Belaris, but they still need to be further confirmed. At present, human observation is already very difficult. It is difficult to make progress by relying solely on optical astronomical telescopes and radio telescopes. Therefore, at this stage, human beings can only accurately determine the large-scale structure of the universe in this universe.

The exhibits are located in the aisles, showing the large-scale structure of the universe. When the audience walks through the aisles, they can appreciate six groups of cosmic structures at different large scales: the third ring of the solar system, the left spiral arm of Orion, the Milky Way, the Virgo supercluster, the Laniakea supercluster, and the local universe.
