Purpose & Scientific Principle
This exhibit uses a simulated Shenzhou spacecraft return capsule to create a landscape, combined with VR technology, to lead the audience into the return capsule, understand the structure of the Shenzhou spacecraft return capsule, experience the shocking scene of astronauts returning to Earth from space, and immerse themselves in experiencing and feeling the great achievements of China's manned spaceflight.
How to Operate
The return capsule is also called the cockpit. It is the astronaut's "cab". It is the cabin section that astronauts ride in when traveling to and from space. It is a closed structure with a hatch at the front. After the return capsule and the propulsion module separate, the return capsule returns and the propulsion module is burned. The orbital module is equivalent to an earth observation satellite or a space laboratory, and it will continue to work in orbit for a period of time. The seat in the Shenzhou return capsule is very much like a baby chair, because astronauts must maintain a curled-up position when returning. This is a very safe position and can reduce the impact of impact.
In order to prevent the high heat generated by severe friction with the atmosphere from burning through the bulkhead, the surface of the return capsule is coated with ablative materials, and the heat is dissipated by means of pyrolysis, melting, and evaporation of the materials. This material is a composite material formed by blending asbestos, glass and phenolic formaldehyde. In order to avoid local overheating, the return capsule has a rolling and attitude-adjusting engine, which will be heated evenly through rotation.
With so much protection in place, there is still the possibility of a cockpit rupture to consider. At that time, astronauts wearing closed space suits will take over the autopilot and manually operate the backup system to control the emergency return of the spacecraft. After safely entering the atmosphere, the landing speed needs to be further controlled.
The "Flying Shenzhou" exhibit displays the overall function and structure of the Shenzhou spacecraft, focusing on the function and working principle of the return capsule. It uses VR technology to immersively experience the shocking scene of astronauts riding the return capsule and returning to Earth from space.
