Purpose & Scientific Principle

The exhibits use the physical model of the "Jade Rabbit 2" lunar rover and a multimedia simulation game to allow the audience to understand the appearance and structure of the "Jade Rabbit 2" lunar rover during the experience process, complete the lunar rover's patrol and detection mission on the far side of the moon, and thereby further understand China's lunar exploration project.

How to Operate

Yutu-2, the Chang'e-4 mission lunar rover, is China's second lunar rover after the "Yutu" lunar rover. It completed its separation from the Chang'e-4 lander at 22:22 on January 3, 2019, and arrived at the far side of the moon. It achieved the first landing on the far side of the moon, becoming another milestone in the development of China's aerospace industry. The rover is equipped with a panoramic camera, a lunar radar, an infrared imaging spectrometer and a neutral atom detector. These instruments will carry out low-frequency radio astronomical observations and research on the far side of the moon through placement and inspection on the far side of the moon. They will also conduct research on the morphology, mineral composition and shallow structure of the lunar surface, and conduct experimental research on the lunar environment such as neutron radiation dose and neutral atoms on the far side of the moon. As the lunar rover still operating on the moon, Yutu 2 has "extended service" and revealed for the first time the geological layered structure within the 40-meter depth of the landing area on the back of the moon. It was found that the underground material is composed of low-loss lunar soil material and a large number of rocks of different sizes.

The exhibits mainly display the "Yutu-2" lunar rover's lunar back inspection and survey mission, and the overall exhibition environment creates a lunar atmosphere.
