Purpose & Scientific Principle
Through physical models and multimedia video interpretations, the exhibits allow the audience to understand the special material properties of Chang'e Steel and its important role in landing buffer, and witness the feat of Anhui's wisdom in assisting Chang'e in lunar exploration.
How to Operate
Since 2007, the Institute of Solid State Physics, Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has undertaken the task of exploring tie rod materials. Through repeated research and verification, it has finally prepared materials and products whose performance indicators and space environment adaptability are superior to technical requirements. In December 2013, the buffer tie rod developed by the Institute of Solid State successfully ensured the soft landing of "Chang'e-3" on the lunar surface; in 2019, when the Chang'e-4 probe landed, it faced huge risks caused by the different landing times and uneven distribution of impact force of the four main landing legs. Under extreme conditions, The split tie rods will withstand stronger impact and tension, which requires the tie rods to play an energy-absorbing role efficiently, reliably and stably. The buffer tie rods developed by the company are still solid and made an important contribution to the successful soft landing of "Chang'e 4" on the back of the moon. This is where the name "Chang'e Steel" comes from.
The exhibits focus on the important contribution of Chang'e Steel developed by the Institute of Solid State Physics, Hefei Institute of Physical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in the field of lunar exploration engineering, and use the video to vividly present the radiant wisdom of Anhui's power in assisting Chang'e in lunar exploration.
