Purpose & Scientific Principle

Through the setting of shooting multimedia interactive games, this exhibit allows the audience to understand the protective effects and processes of Jupiter, the moon and the atmosphere on the earth, and to understand the important reasons why the earth can become a habitable planet without being hit by extraterrestrial bodies.

How to Operate

(1) Jupiter: At the outer edge of the solar system is the Oort Nebula. There are also two asteroid belts in the solar system. Affected by interstellar gravity, these asteroids are likely to become wanderers. Once their orbits coincide with the Earth's orbit, they may hit the Earth. The dinosaur extinction event 65 million years ago was caused by an asteroid with a diameter of 10 kilometers hitting the earth. Jupiter's huge gravity plays a role in avoiding and guiding asteroids. These asteroids from the outer layers are either captured by Jupiter or re-thrown out of the solar system by Jupiter. Scientists estimate that the presence of Jupiter reduces the probability of the Earth being hit by an asteroid by 1,000 times.

(2) Moon: The moon also protects the earth from impacts by small celestial bodies. Jupiter can block sudden attacks by big guys, but there are still some small celestial bodies that will visit the Earth's orbit. In this case, the moon plays its role. Look at the countless craters on the surface of the moon, which are proof that the moon protects the earth from harm.

(3) Atmosphere: The earth is experiencing collisions with extraterrestrial objects all the time. However, the vast majority of these extraterrestrial objects have very small masses. They are basically interstellar dust, rock fragments with a diameter of less than 1 meter, and ice crystal materials. When these tiny materials pass through the earth's atmosphere, they will basically be ablated under severe friction and will not fall to the earth. Only those rock masses that are larger in size and have a relatively dense structure will eventually resist the friction and impact of the atmosphere, and eventually hit the earth to form meteorites.

"Guardians of the Earth" focuses on displaying the relevant knowledge of Jupiter, the moon and the earth's atmosphere protecting the earth from the impact of extraterrestrial bodies. A shooting game is specially designed. Through the combination of gun model launcher and multimedia projection, popular science knowledge is combined with lively and interesting games, making it easier for the audience to understand and accept the process of the earth being protected from the impact of extraterrestrial bodies by Jupiter, the moon and the atmosphere, which is an important reason for becoming a habitable planet.
