Purpose & Scientific Principle
The Möbius strip is a topological structure created by the German mathematician Möbius. It is a special ring that disconnects an ordinary ring, turns the sections 180° and then connects them together. The difference between this type of ring and an ordinary ring is that it has only one surface (ie, a single-sided curved surface), while an ordinary ring has two inner and outer surfaces (double-sided curved surfaces).
How to Operate
This exhibition mainly consists of a Mobius strip and two small ladybug models of different colors. The surface of the Möbius strip is designed like a racing track. Two little ladybug models are chasing each other on the track. When little ladybug B quickly catches up with little ladybug A, little ladybug B will slow down, and little ladybug A will speed up until little ladybug A catches up with little ladybug B. Little ladybug A will slow down again, and little ladybug B will speed up, and the cycle continues. Combined with the LED lights on the track, the little ladybug can drive over both front and back curved surfaces without crossing the edge of the Möbius strip during movement, allowing the audience to intuitively understand that the Möbius strip has only one infinitely looping single side and the non-orientable surface characteristics.
Watch as a little ladybug navigates the entire curved surface without having to cross the edge of a Möbius strip.
