Purpose & Scientific Principle
Demonstrates the working principle of the Cardan ellipse compass. Rotate the handle, and the two fixed-distance slide blocks attached to the handle link move orthogonally along the cross groove in the grinding plate. The handle always moves on an ellipse due to the constraints of four forces - the linear motion constraints of the two slide blocks and the rotational motion constraints between the rocker and the two slide blocks. The distances between the handle and the two sliders are the major semi-axis and minor semi-axis of the ellipse respectively.
How to Operate
Demonstrates the working principle of Cardin's elliptical compass.
Push the rotating rod, observe the reciprocating movement of the two slide blocks along the cross chute on the disk, feel the 360° rotation of the rotating rod, and observe the trajectory of the end point of the rotating rod.
