Purpose & Scientific Principle
The aim is to allow the audience to imagine the invisible force in the magnetic field through the regular changes in the angle and position of the magnets, understand the properties of magnets with opposite poles attracting each other and like poles repelling each other, and understand the chain reaction of the formation process of magnetic force in magnets.
How to Operate
1. Properties of magnets
The magnet has two polarities, the magnetic north pole is N, and the magnetic south pole is S. After cutting off, it still has two poles, N and S. A single magnetic pole cannot exist.
Every magnet has positive and negative poles. There is a magnetic field around the magnet. When the same poles of two magnets are close to each other, due to the mutual repulsion of the magnetic field, the two magnets are like a force pulling them apart. When two different poles are close, they will attract. Simply put, magnet repulsion is caused by the magnetic field in the magnet. This is what is said in physics that like poles repel and opposite poles attract.
2. The chain reaction of magnetism
Each iron atom in the iron block is magnetic, but because their directions are chaotic, the vector sum of their magnetic forces is zero, that is, the whole has no magnetism.
The formation of magnetism begins when a certain number of iron atoms begin to align in the same direction, generating a core magnetic field of a certain scale. The core magnetic field induces neighboring iron atoms, causing them to adjust their directions and join the lineup of the core magnetic field. This further strengthens the magnetic force of the core magnetic field, thus starting a chain reaction of overall magnetization. The more iron atoms are added, the stronger the core magnetic field is formed, and the more iron atoms are induced to join the core magnetic field, thus forming a cycle. Eventually, the entire iron block turns into a big magnet in an instant.
