Purpose & Scientific Principle
The exhibition item takes the ancient Chinese traditional calculation tool - the abacus as the entry point, and introduces the local Anhui abacus master - Cheng Dawei, allowing the audience to appreciate his outstanding contribution to the improvement and promotion of the abacus algorithm.
How to Operate
Cheng Dawei (1533-1606): a famous mathematician in ancient China, a native of Xiuning Likou, Huizhou (now Tunxi District, Huangshan City, Anhui Province). The "Zhizhi Algorithm Tongzong" compiled by him and his concise and popular "Algorithm Compilation" compiled by him are second to none in the history of the development of ancient Chinese mathematics in terms of long-term, extensive and profound circulation. "Zhizhi Abacus Algorithm Tongzong" is one of the earliest ancient arithmetic books to record the square root and cube root methods of abacus. It completed the transformation from calculation to abacus and made the abacus an important calculation tool. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Cheng Dawei's abacus algorithm was introduced to Japan, which was the first "sum calculation" in Japan. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was introduced to Korea, Southeast Asia and Europe, and was applied in these areas. Countries around the world recognize that China is the hometown of abacus, and Cheng Dawei is a master of abacus.
Cheng Dawei's abacus arithmetic: Cheng Dawei created the abacus formula that people are now familiar with, making abacus calculation easy and easy to learn. "Algorithm Tongzong" completely describes the "positioning song" of the abacus positioning method for the first time: several positioning methods are strange, because they are all pushed downwards. When adding or subtracting, you only need to recognize the basic position and return to the upper position. If there are many laws, it is better to count them backwards. If you get zero before the laws, it is better to count them downwards. Fa Shao originally reduced the number, and before Fa got zero, he knew the opposite.
