Purpose & Scientific Principle

Through further experimental restoration of Torricelli's law, the law about liquid pressure is extended, allowing the audience to experience Torricelli's scientific research logic system in the field of pressure, understand the specific content of Torricelli's law of liquids, and let the audience understand the impact and significance of this law through graphic display.

How to Operate

The logic and significance of Torricelli's research: After discovering vacuum and air pressure, Torricelli studied liquid pressure through experiments and proposed a flow rate law for fluids flowing out of openings, that is, the speed of liquid ejected from a small hole at the bottom of a water tank is equal to the square root of twice the product of the acceleration of gravity and the height of the liquid. This law laid the foundation for fluid mechanics to become an independent branch of mechanics.

2. The specific content of the law: The depth and density of the liquid are two factors that affect the internal pressure of the liquid. The pressure inside the same liquid increases with depth. The internal pressure of different liquids is related to density. At the same depth, the greater the density of the liquid, the greater the pressure. In the bottom, inner wall, and interior of a liquid container, the pressure formed by the gravity of the liquid itself is called liquid pressure, or hydraulic pressure for short. In addition to exerting pressure on the bottom of the container, the liquid also exerts pressure on the side walls that "restrict" its flow. Liquids are affected by gravity and are fluid.

Liquid pressure, referred to as hydraulic pressure, refers to the pressure formed by the gravity of the liquid itself in the bottom, inner wall, and interior of a liquid container. It is a physics concept discovered by French mathematician Blaise Pascal in 1646.

Pascal's "split barrel" experiment can well prove that the pressure of a liquid is related to the depth of the liquid, because the pressure of the liquid is equal to the product of density, depth and gravity constant, that is, P = ρgh.
