Purpose & Scientific Principle

The exhibition focuses on Archimedes' achievements in levers, demonstrating the principle of leverage and its application in various scenarios.

How to Operate

In "On the Balance of a Flat Plate", Archimedes proposed the principle of the lever in the form of a mathematical axiom. If the lever is balanced, the product of the force (weight) at both ends of the fulcrum and the length of the moment arm is equal, that is, F1×L1=F2×L2.

Archimedes (287 BC - 212 BC), a great ancient Greek philosopher, encyclopedic scientist, mathematician, physicist, mechanics, founder of static mechanics and fluid statics, and enjoys the reputation of "Father of Mechanics". Archimedes, Gauss and Newton are listed as the three major mathematicians in the world. Archimedes once said: "Give me a fulcrum and I can lift the entire earth." According to his lever principle, if the fulcrum is chosen well and the ratio of the two arms is large enough, no matter how heavy the object is, even the earth can move by itself. Of course, this sentence mainly allows us to understand the labor-saving characteristics of the leverage principle.
