Purpose & Scientific Principle
The Coriolis force comes from the inertia of the object's motion. Particles that move linearly in a rotating system tend to continue moving along the original direction of motion due to inertia. However, since the system itself rotates, after a period of movement, the position of the particle in the system will change, and the direction of its original movement trend will deviate to a certain extent if viewed from the perspective of the rotating system. Taking the rotating system as the reference system, the tendency of the linear motion of the particle to deviate from the original direction is attributed to the action of an external force, which is the Coriolis force.
How to Operate
The exhibition consists of a turntable, a moving slide, and rollers (there are rollers with different shapes such as drum rollers and flake rollers). The audience presses the start button, and the turntable rotates. The rollers roll along the straight line from the slide around the turntable to the turntable, watch the movement trajectories of various rollers in the turntable, and understand the movement position changes of linear motion particles in the rotation system caused by the Coriolis force.
Operation method: Press the start switch and the turntable will rotate. Take the roller and roll it from the slide to the turntable, and observe the movement trajectory of the roller.
