Purpose & Scientific Principle

The successive development of three electronic devices, namely electron tubes, transistors and integrated circuits, has brought about the development wave of four generations of electronic computers, and has also driven the changes in the electronic age of human society. The exhibition area begins with three electronic devices to convey their significance for social change. Through proportional enlargement and original display, the audience can understand their detailed structure and true size, and feel the huge changes in the electronic era brought about by tiny components.

How to Operate

Show the shape and structure of electron tubes, transistors and integrated circuits.

The invention of the electron tube originated from the Edison effect, which is a way of emitting carriers through thermal excitation. In 1904, Fleming developed a vacuum diode during his experiments; in 1906, De Forest developed Fleming's diode into a triode to achieve signal amplification. The invention of the electronic tube kicked off the wave of human electronic information age.

In 1945, the transistor was successfully developed by Bell Laboratories in the United States. The transistor acts as a variable current switch that controls the output current based on the input voltage. After the advent of the transistor, people were able to replace the large, power-consuming electronic tubes with a compact, low-power-consuming electronic device.

Kilby invented the integrated circuit in 1958. An integrated circuit is a circuit with specific functions that integrates a certain number of commonly used electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc., as well as the connections between these components, through a semiconductor process. Integrated circuits have played a very important role in all walks of life and are the cornerstone of modern information society.

The successive development of three electronic devices, namely electron tubes, transistors and integrated circuits, has brought about the development wave of four generations of electronic computers, and has also led to the changes in the electronic era of human society.
