Purpose & Scientific Principle
The transformer provides hundreds of thousands of volts of high voltage, which breaks down the air between the horn electrodes to form a bow-shaped arc, generates a magnetic field, and causes the arc to move upward. The movement process is similar to climbing a ladder. When the arc is stretched to about 600mm, the applied voltage can no longer maintain the conditions required to generate the arc, and the arc disappears. At this time, a new arc will be generated at the bottom of the horn electrode, forming a recurring arc ladder phenomenon.
How to Operate
The Jacob's Ladder is a device that generates a continuous arc of electricity that moves upward. Similar to the protection circuit, the spark gap is formed by two wires branching off at the top. When high voltage is applied to a spark gap, sparks form at the base of the wires closest to each other and quickly turn into an arc. The heated, ionized air moves upward, carrying a current path with it. As the ionized trace gets longer and longer, it becomes more and more unstable and finally breaks up. Then, the voltage across the electrodes increases and the spark re-forms at the bottom of the device.
Press the button and watch the "sparks" rise on Jacob's Ladder.
