Purpose & Scientific Principle
Pythagorean Theorem: The sum of the squares of the two right-angled sides of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse, that is: a 2 + b 2 = c 2 .
How to Operate
The exhibit is equipped with three turntables. Inside the turntable are triangle models, namely acute triangle, right triangle and obtuse triangle. Each side of the triangle corresponds to a square (the area of the square represents the square of the side) container, and the square with the long side is filled with colored liquid. By rotating the turntable, observe that the liquid in the square on the long side of the right triangle just fills the squares on the other two short sides. The water in the square on the long side of the acute triangle can not only fill the squares on the other two short sides, but there is still a surplus. The water in the square with the long side of the obtuse triangle cannot fill the squares with the other two short sides.
Rotate the three turntables respectively, compare and observe the relationship between the liquid volumes of the large square and the two small squares in different containers, and understand a 2 + b 2 = c 2 .
