Purpose & Scientific Principle
By comparing the carbon emissions of bio-based material products and petroleum-based material products, the audience can understand the difference in carbon emissions between bio-based materials and petroleum-based materials.
How to Operate
Bio-based materials are polymer materials formed by using renewable biomass such as cereals, legumes, straw, bamboo and wood powder as raw materials, obtaining biopolymer materials or monomers through biological transformation, and then further polymerizing them. It mainly includes bioplastics, bio-based platform compounds, biomass functional polymer materials, functional sugar products, wood-based engineering materials and other products, which are green, environmentally friendly, renewable raw materials and partially biodegradable.
Compared with traditional materials, bio-based materials effectively reduce carbon emissions during the production process. For example:
•The carbon emissions of producing 1kg of nylon-56 are reduced by 4.31kg compared to the production of 1kg of nylon-66.
Using petroleum to make plastics emits approximately 3.1 tons of carbon dioxide per ton, while using biomass materials to make plastics only emits 0.6 tons of carbon dioxide. That is, for every ton of biomass plastics promoted, emissions can be reduced by 2.5 tons, or 80%.
The exhibits use bio-based materials and petroleum-based materials as display content, and use scale weighing as a display method to let the audience understand the difference in carbon emissions between bio-based materials and petroleum-based materials.
