Purpose & Scientific Principle

The exhibits use model interaction and background graphics to let the audience understand the principles of transformers. By comparing the transmission capabilities of different voltages, it is concluded that the transmission capacity is proportional to the square of the transmission voltage and inversely proportional to the impedance of the circuit. This scientific theory guides the audience to think about the great convenience that UHV transmission provides to human daily life, and inspires the audience's enthusiasm for exploring UHV transmission.

How to Operate

High-voltage power transmission is a method of boosting the voltage output by a generator through a power plant transformer and then transmitting it. Under the same transmission power, the higher the voltage, the smaller the current. In this way, high-voltage power transmission can reduce the current during power transmission, thereby reducing the heat loss caused by current and the material cost of long-distance power transmission. The UHV power grid derived from this principle uses the 1000kV transmission network as the backbone grid, and uses the ultra-high voltage transmission network and high-voltage transmission network as well as UHV DC transmission, high-voltage DC transmission and distribution network to form a hierarchical, partitioned and clear-structured modern large power grid. UHV has large transmission capacity, long power transmission distance, low line loss, and takes up less land. The capacity of a 1,000 kV AC UHV transmission line to transmit electrical energy (technically called transmission capacity) is five times that of a 500 kV UHV transmission line. The economic transmission distance of 500 kV ultra-high voltage transmission lines is generally 600,000 to 800 kilometers, while the economic transmission distance of 1,000 kV ultra-high voltage transmission lines can reach 1,000,000 to 1,500 kilometers or even longer because the voltage has increased and line losses have been reduced.

The exhibits are designed to demonstrate the principles of transformers. Set up a transmission line model, and the audience can choose different transmission voltages and transmission distances, light up the light box, and think about the factors that affect the transmission efficiency by comparing the brightness of the light box. Combined with pictures and texts, the audience can deepen their understanding of transformer power transmission.
