Purpose & Scientific Principle

Through game interaction, let the public understand the carbon dioxide capture, transportation and storage aspects of CCS technology.

How to Operate

CCS technology, the abbreviation of Carbon Capture and Storage, is a technology that captures and stores carbon dioxide (CO2). CCS technology refers to using carbon capture technology to separate carbon dioxide produced by industry and related energy industries, and then transport and store it to a place isolated from the atmosphere such as the seabed or underground through carbon storage means.

CCS is one option in a portfolio of mitigation actions to stabilize atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. CCS has the potential to reduce overall abatement costs and increase flexibility in achieving greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The widespread application of CCS depends on technology maturity, cost, overall potential, technology popularization and transfer in developing countries and their ability to apply the technology, regulatory factors, environmental issues and public feedback. CO2 capture can be used for large point sources. CO2 will be compressed, transported and stored in geological formations, oceans, carbonate ores, or used in industrial processes. Large point sources of CO2 include large fossil fuel or bioenergy facilities, major CO2-emitting industries, natural gas production, synthetic fuel plants, and fossil fuel-based hydrogen production plants. Potential technological storage options include: geological storage (storage in geological formations such as oil and gas fields, unminable coal fields, and deep salt marsh formations), marine storage (direct release into ocean waters or to the seafloor), and solidification of CO2 into inorganic carbonates.

The exhibits are designed to showcase carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. In order to fit the theme of the exhibits, the booth is designed with a large-area glass floor and three real storage tanks, giving participants a strong visual impact and sense of immersion. Through multi-person collaborative somatosensory games, the interactivity of the exhibits is enhanced, allowing the audience to intuitively understand the carbon dioxide capture, transportation and storage aspects of CCS technology.
